Vanilla+ Survival Focus

Overview

Over the past year, I’ve been developing a Minecraft Bedrock addon that reimagines the Overworld as a post-apocalyptic wilderness. Original biomes, mutated wildlife, abandoned structures and hidden dungeons offer new discoveries, while interconnected survival mechanics—including radiation—bring fresh challenges, progression and bosses.

At its heart, the addon remains vanilla+: familiar blocky designs and an emphasis on exploration, crafting and discovery keep the experience grounded in Minecraft. New creatures and systems build on that foundation, with lore scattered around the world for players to uncover.

Below is a snapshot showing some of the features that I've been working on.

An ongoing project with gameplay playtesting and a supporting wiki.

Aims & Objectives

The project aims to give players a new Minecraft survival experience from the moment they enter the world: unfamiliar biomes to explore, original creatures to encounter and systems to learn.

The features of this Addon have been designed to interconnect with each other. For example, a creature’s drop may be needed to craft armour, which then helps prepare the player for a boss encounter. This gives exploration, crafting and combat a shared purpose.

This is a fully independent project. I have personally created all code, textures, models and structures.

Development Status - In Active Development

The addon is playable and currently being expanded with additional biomes, mobs, features and one further boss encounter. Further playtesting, balancing and technical verification are still required before release.
02 / Selected environments

WorldGen

Bone Waste biome
Environment / 01

Bone Waste

The Bone Wastes are large wasteland biomes, which cover a lot of the new overworld surface. Typically covered in dead bones & burned trees.

The Bone Waste contains many decayed and ruined structures, remnants of the previous Overworld. While lots of loot and resources can be found here it also poses many dangers.

Amethyst Fields biome
Environment / 02

Amethyst Fields

This biome features large amethyst trees. With gemstone-inspired fauna and crystalline stalagmites as well as a source of amethyst, making this biome essential to visit. Several new mobs are native to this biome.

A relatively safer biome. Although some dangers remain, it offers a resource-rich, open area to establish a base.

Golden Meadow biome
Environment / 03

Golden Meadow

The radiation has mutated the mushroom islands into new versions of themselves. The Golden Meadows feature giant yellow-capped mushrooms.

This biome contains lots of fungal-themed fauna and lots of structure loot. It also offers early-game resources, making it a great starting biome.

03 / Gameplay & creatures

Boss Highlight - Mutated Creeper

Mutated Creeper boss
1The Mutated Creeper can be summoned by afflicting a creeper with radiation and giving them a special mutagen
02Bosses should offer more than straightforward melee combat, with unique summoning and combat mechanics, like vanilla bosses.
03To defend itself it summons TNT, creepers and uses an explosive leap to jump towards the player. Making it a formidable threat at all times.

Mob Showcase

Basilisk walk cycle
Creature / 01

Basilisk

Spawns in the Amethyst Fields. Extremely territorial and will hunt the player on sight. Come in a range of sizes, the oldest and largest basilisks drop venom, an essential crafting resource. Rarely a young basilisk can be found, these are not aggressive towards players and can be tamed. Once grown, they can be used to recycle enchantments from tools, weapons and armour; only when well fed though.

Roadrunner walk cycle
Creature / 02

Roadrunner

A passive mob that spawns in almost every biome. A fast mob that can be ridden for long distances. To tame a Roadrunner, you must apply blindness to the Roadrunner and then sneak up to it with food. Comes in a variety of textures, an essential creature to explore the new overworld.

RB-01 walk cycle
Creature / 03

RB-01

A mechanised dog that still patrols the wasteland long after it was made. It hoards metal and marks its territory with piles of scrap. Constantly on the lookout for more loot, it attacks any player wearing any kind of metal armour. It uses the coils on its back to pull metal towards it, this includes players wearing metal armour, however you can distract it with scrap metal to make a getaway.

A 23-year-old graduate robotics engineer based in the UK. Experience with hardware & software development and industrial experience in Robotics Engineering.

I have been playing Minecraft ever since I was a kid. I used to watch YouTubers play modded Minecraft and always wanted to play them myself but couldn't as mods had not yet come to the Xbox version of Minecraft.
For that reason, now that I am a bit older with some coding experience under my belt, I thought that I would try my hand at making my own mod. With the goal of recreating that 'cool' feeling of seeing someone play a modded world and make something that people would genuinely enjoy spending time with.

Experience with: C, C++, JSON, JavaScript, Python, Blockbench, CAD, Video Editing, Website Creation.

Let’s build
something worth exploring.

I’m interested in discussing a publishing partnership and the next stage of development for this project.
